Michael and Ellen Lanahan have become beloved figures in the Corning dining scene as the husband-and-wife owners of The Cellar, a popular wine bar and full-service restaurant nestled in downtown Corning’s Gaffer District. After Michael, a long-time executive chef, and Ellen purchased the restaurant in July 2015, they helped transform it into a destination known for its creative, seasonally inspired dishes and extensive wine program that reflects both local Finger Lakes vineyards and international favorites. Their commitment to fresh ingredients, welcoming hospitality, and community has made The Cellar a standout local favorite over the past decade.

Now, the Lanahans are excited to begin a new chapter with Ellen & Michael’s, an Italian restaurant concept that will honor Michael’s rich heritage and lifelong love of family-style meals. Inspired by his Italian upbringing and the cherished Sunday dinners at Nonna’s house, the new restaurant aims to bring those warm, communal traditions to Corning’s Market Street, celebrating classic flavors and the sense of togetherness at the heart of Italian family gatherings. This next venture reflects their passion for great food, deep roots in family and culture, and enthusiasm for sharing that experience with the community.
